Additive Manufacturing is now a consolidated technology, its advantages are well-known, however its use in industrial contexts needs additional development to be considered competitive in production time and costs. We would like to bridge this existing gap and make 3D printers industrial, realiable, repeteable and easy-to-use. Our ultimate goal is to develop specialised machines, in other words application driven systems able to optimally produce at high volumes by guaranteeing product complexities and factory efficiencies.
In our globalised market, companies have tried to remain competitive through the adoption of a strategy where high quantity production of goods was the leverage to reduce costs. This approach is not always the most effective and efficient way.
Industrio alternatively proposes the “Mini-factories” concept, which is conceived to be an innovative solution for most of the actors involved in the whole supply chain. Industrio would like to contribute in the revolution to move back the manufacturing model from centralised to locally distributed. This high-level concept can be applied focusing on need-driven products, and different levels of manufacturing solutions which can be placed:
• at RETAIL environment, to manufacture simple products with minor assembly required; • at DISTRICT or URBAN level when the products are complex and the manufacturing procedures cannot be scaled at local level.
Industrio aims at developing an innovative manufacturing framework based on the creation of small-local-agile manufacturing units, "Mini-factories" enabling the distribution at local (mini-factory@retailer) and district scale (mini-factory@area/close to retails) of technologically advanced fabrication operations. The systems are highly flexible, can be automatically reconfigured or readdressed to produce when and where needed. Digital systems can guarantee variable volume of production and automatically follow the flow of information between the individual users (needs) and the manufacturing units (offers) seamless and instantaneously.
Consumers demand for personalised, comfortable, safe-healthy and sustainable products is growing. The high capability to track performances as well as biometric data via affordable wearable technologies is making it possible the design of individual and personalised products. The bottleneck for such paradigm to industrially happen is the manufacturing and related business models to be applied. Industrio proposes different solutions that guarantee mass market production at high volume with the magics that products are all different and individually fabricated as per personal need.
Our machines are designed and industrialised to be used as “Mini-factories”. An innovative approach for most of the actors involved in a supply chain. The relationship between retailers and manufacturers can be rethought and valorised by a new production framework concept, founded on central knowledge-based design and local distributed manufacturing.
ContinuoPFF is a Carousel System based on multiple and complementary technologies. The X-axis is endorsed by a conveyor technology with Independent Carriers able to move at different speed and direction. The solidification process is based on the Powder Bed Fusion technique enhanced by an innovative laser module for high speed sintering. The system contains robots for the deposition and/or extrusion of functional materials such as conductive matters for embedded electronics. Automatic de-powdering and unpacking units for the post-processing of the parts are also included in the system.
ContinuoMJF is a Carousel System based on multiple and well integrated technologies. The X-axis is endorsed by a conveyor belt system synchronised with high dynamic Robots able to operate at very high speed. The solidification processes are based on the Material Jetting and Photocuring techniques. Delta Robots guarantee on the fly pick-and-place operations for the production of personalised products with embedded electronics.

Customisation of medical products is crucial for many reasons, having a patient-specific tool or device guarantees an increase of comfortness but also quality of treatment and use of the product itself. The applications of interest are the ones for which the product can make a big difference such as Surgical Guides, Orthoses and Prostheses as well as the Dental industry. Having application driven machines that specifically address patient-specific requirements can make the industrial production of individual devices much more sustainable and realiable.
Customisation of consumer products addresses various requirements: functional, bio-medical and safety-wellness related aspects (prevent injuries restoring optimal motion); so as to guarantee comfortable, performing, safe and healthy products for different applications (e.g. sport, leisure and fashion) and different consumers. The Personalisation not only guarantees direct advantages to the consumers but also promote much more sustainable businesses, as products can be manufactured when and where needed, avoiding unsold products or stocking inefficiencies.
